About Matt
The story behind
the stories.
Writer, father, patient, advocate. Twenty years of living with MS turned into a life of telling the truth about what it means to push through.
The moment everything changed
In 2005, Matt Cavallo was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. Two words that rearranged everything he thought he knew about his future. What followed was a journey through the healthcare system as both patient and witness -- navigating treatments, fighting insurance battles, and learning firsthand what it means to be a million-dollar patient.
Rather than let the diagnosis define him, Matt chose to write about it. To speak about it. To turn the worst thing that ever happened to him into a bridge between the people living with illness and the systems built to serve them.
The writer
Matt is the author of 300+ published articles and two books. His essays blend personal narrative with insight drawn from twenty years of lived healthcare experience. His writing has appeared across health publications and literary platforms, and he is currently completing a memoir.
He writes about MS, family, faith, Italian-American heritage, the writing life, and what it means to keep going when the path isn’t clear. His children’s book, Dog Story, is forthcoming.
The strategist
Matt holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a PMP certification. He was trained in compliant, patient-centered communication by pharmaceutical companies including Biogen, Genentech, Novartis, and Genzyme.
He has led provider engagement strategies across California Medi-Cal and Ohio Medicaid programs, built a network of 11,000+ healthcare professionals and decision-makers, and delivered CEU/CME-accredited keynotes across hundreds of healthcare events.

Off the stage
Matt lives in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix, Arizona with his family and his service dog, Ted. He’s a father, a son of Italian-American heritage from Weymouth, Massachusetts -- on Boston’s South Shore -- and a Catholic whose faith runs through everything he writes.
When he’s not writing or speaking, you’ll find him at the kitchen table with family, walking with Ted, or working on the next chapter of his memoir.
