The moment everything changed
In 2005, Matt Cavallo was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. In the years that followed, he experienced healthcare from both sides: first as a patient navigating treatments, insurance barriers, and the uncertainty of chronic illness, and later as a healthcare professional working inside the systems meant to serve people like him.
Matt began writing publicly in 2008, first to make sense of what was happening and then to help others feel less alone. That work grew into books, essays, keynotes, and a career focused on the human side of healthcare. He tells the truth about illness without allowing it to become the whole story.
The writer
Matt has written more than 300 published articles and two books. His essays combine personal narrative with insight drawn from his experience as both a patient and healthcare professional. His work has appeared across health publications and literary platforms.
He writes stories about the moments that shape a life, often beginning with the ordinary before revealing something larger underneath. His work blends humor, honesty, and lived experience. He is preparing a fully revised edition of his memoir, The Dog Story.
The healthcare leader
Matt holds a Master of Public Health and a PMP certification. His professional background spans patient-centered communication, provider engagement, member experience, and healthcare technology, with training from organizations including Biogen, Genentech, Novartis, and Genzyme.
He has led provider engagement initiatives across California Medi-Cal and Ohio Medicaid, built a network of more than 11,000 healthcare professionals and decision-makers, and delivered keynotes and educational programs for healthcare audiences nationwide.

Off the stage
Matt lives in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Jocelyn. They are the proud parents of Mason and Colby and share their home with their two Havanese twin dogs, Barry and Jasper.
When he's not writing, speaking, or working in healthcare, you'll usually find him with his family, walking Barry and Jasper, exploring Arizona or working on his next story.
